DIALYSIS TREATMENT DESCRIPTION
When due to kidney failure function is decreased considerably (less than 10%) then only treatment to save life is dialysis as generally immediate facilities for transplant are not available in permanent kidney failure patients. Therefore either Hemodialysis (blood dialysis) or Peritoneal
(abdominal) Dialysis is performed. Delay may prove fatal.
Process of Dialysis involves the following features:
- Removes toxic waste products from the body not being removed by the sick kidneys.
- Removes excess fluids from the body. Excess fluids in lungs cause breathlessness.
- Neutralizes and removes excess acids from the blood.
- Balances level of various salts in the body which may be dangerously disturbed in kidney failure.
- Provides energy to the body through Glucose in the Dialysis fluid.
